3 Big Donโts When Using AI as an Aspiring Online Freelancer
I always say itโs okay to use AI.
In fact, Iโve made a whole playlist just for it 😄
But to make things clearโฆ
Iโve listed 3 important things you should NOT do so you donโt get into any trouble using AI,
especially if youโre just starting to get into the online world.
1. Fake Reviews
DONโT use AI in creating fake testimonials or fake reviews
(either for your freelance business or your clientโs business)
With AI, itโs so easy to generate text or even videos, right?
While AI videos are easier to spot, donโt ever think you can get away with using AI-generated text reviews.
Iโm so ok with asking AI to generate something for you,
but NOT for unethical use.
What you can do instead is, of course:
- Build your portfolio.
- Offer pro-bono or discounted work in exchange for a review/testimonial.
- Learn and hone your skills in whatever freelance niche youโre in.
2. 100% AI-Generated Portfolio
DONโT take credit for a portfolio you didnโt create, Bosses.
A portfolio is something you send to clients so they can see samples of your work.
How can they see your potential with AI-generated outputs?
You can ask AI for ideas,
but you should make an active effort on your end, too.
- Ask for a strategy, not the actual deliverables.
- Be inspired by the given references, but do not just replicate the output.
- Use it to check your work, NOT to do the work for you.
If you donโt know yet how you can build your portfolio with zero experience,
Iโve made a couple of video tutorials that you can watch.
3. AI-Generated Application Letter
Prospect clients hire someone they know they can entrust their business to.
And it starts with the proposals.
A generic template doesnโt stand out in the hiring process.
Believe me, Iโve read thousands of applications, and itโs obvious when you just used a template.
What more if it sounds like an AI?
REMEMBER:
when applying, you should already be able to build a connection with the client.
Iโve already created a video about the Doโs and Donโts in creating a cover letter,
but hereโs also how AI can help you:
- Ask for a summary of data about the industry of your prospective client,
and keep that information in mind when writing your proposals. - Use AI to check your spelling and grammar.
- Ask for feedback on how you can present your ideas more clearly.

If getting a client is part of your 2026 goals, itโs time to reach out to prospect clients now, Bosses!
Again, Iโm not saying AI is NOT a good thing to use when youโre just starting in the freelance industry. Iโd just want to remind you to use it correctly and wisely.
So make sure to keep these 3 points in mind during your client-hunting days!
